Responsibility:
- Project Management
- Diving operations
- Mechanical work
- Rigging and lifting operations
Description
Jupiter 1 represented a totally new challenge as the project involved carrying out what is normally a “dry-dock” operation offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. A significant amount of planning and preparation was put into the project, and operational procedures were developed.
The project itself consisted of removing the rigs propeller shaft, changing the Cedervall seal and re-installing the shaft. The diving operation would have to be done at shallow depth and include precision handling of heavy load.
The Otech Marine Services team completed:
- Cutting & removal of ropeguard and outer seal
- Rigging of lifting beam and chainblock arrangement under water
- Disconnecting SKF coupling and shaft
- Removal of the propeller shaft and transfer to crane
- Replacement of propeller blade seals and Cedervall seal
- Re-installation of propeller shaft
- Welding of Ropeguard
