Description
The Leiv Eiriksson project was a two phased project for Otech Marine Services. The first phase was completed during the Yard stay at Westcon in Ølensvåg. The rig was undertaking a massive operation that included taking down the Derrick to allow the rig to sail into the Black Sea.
At arrival of Leiv Eiriksson, Otech Marine Services was present at Westcon for a 5 year periodic survey on the rig Byford Dolphin and our team worked parallel on the two rigs with an extensive amount of both personnel and resources.
The Leiv Eiriksson job was initially to replace 2 Aquamaster thrusters, but also included assisting Rolls Royce with overhauling of thrusters and replacement of a third thruster at the end of the Yard stay.
The second phase was carried out in Sinop, Turkey. Our team was then mobilized to participate with preparing the rig for its drilling operations in the Black Sea. Amongst the activities performed in Turkey were:
- Rigging of Strand jacks for replacement of 2 Aquamaster UUC 455 (7001) Azimuth Thrusters
- Removal/ re-install of additional 2 Azimuth Thrusters to replace propeller
- Assisting Rolls Royce for overhaul/ repair of 1 Azimuth Thruster
The whole project was extensively covered for the program series "Trawlers, Rigs & Rescue: Deadly North Sea" on TV.
